Emory John Plunkett
April 7, 1932 - April 18, 2017

CONOVER, N.C. - Emory John Plunkett, age 85, of Conover passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton.

Born April 7, 1932 in Dutchess County, N.Y., he was the son of the late Emory Patrick and Anne Susan Hollick Plunkett. Emory was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton, and was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 16 of Newton and the VFW Post 1957 of Hickory.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen Lowe; and two sons, Kevin and John Plunkett.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary Murphy Plunkett of the home; three daughters Jennifer Barnhill and husband Kevin of Concord, N.C., Meg Lynn and husband Don of Charlotte, N.C. and Shannon Deal of Newton, N.C.; two sons David Plunkett and wife Christine of Las Vegas, Nevada and Patrick Plunkett and wife Sharon of Zebulon, N.C.; 12 grandchildren Jessica Plunkett of Great Falls, Mont., David John Jr. Plunkett of Arlington, Va., Megan Cash of Salisbury, N.C., Justin Cash of Conover, N.C., James Plunkett of New Bern, N.C., Kaylee Varner of Statesville, NC., Christopher and Connor Barnhill of Concord, N.C., Caleb and Caytlin Deal of Newton, N.C., Lea Lynn of Charlotte, N.C. and Ryan Plunkett of Zebulon, N.C.; four great-grandchildren Jordan Plunkett of APO, AE and Camdyn Sherrill, Caydence and Chase Stice, all of Salisbury, N.C.; daughter-in-law Sheila Plunkett of New Bern, N.C.; and son-in-law Johnny Lowe of Conover, N.C.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 12 p.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Newton, N.C. with Father James Collins officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., prior to the service at the church.
