Today in History in 1397 Geoffrey Chaucer tells the Canterbury Tales for the first time at the court of Richard II; in  1492 Columbus signed contract with Spain to find Indies; and in 1790 U.S. founding father, inventor and writer Benjamin Franklin died at age 84.
