Today in History in 1820 James Monroe was re-elected as President of the United States; in 1848 Zachary Taylor was elected as the 12th President; in 1876 the Electoral College selected President Rutherford B. Hayes over Samuel J. Tilden who won the election; in 1916 Woodrow Wilson was re-elected; and in 1944 President FDR wins 4th term in office, defeating Thomas E Dewey.
