Letter To The Editor

To The Editor:

Look at the storms we're having..."100" year storms every other year! We have to pull our head out of the sand and admit that humans are at Least a Part of the cause of global warming/climate change. And here's Duke Power exacerbating the problem.

Everywhere solar panels are springing up: think Apple. What is Duke Power doing in this regard?? Duke plans on building another gas powered turbine in Lincoln County! The escaping gas from powering that ruins our ozone - contributing to global warming. More coal! More air pollution! More coal-ash to bury - IF someone/company/county is fool enough to let it be buried nearby. NIMBY. No-one wants it! NC is blessed with the Atlantic Ocean - - we could harness its perennial energy...And the wind...And sunshine.

We could power the state with these natural blessings. Instead, we let Duke with its history of coal-ash spills dirty our air, water, and ground. And now Duke wants to FRACK! Using frack-ed energy, with its legacy of spoiling water aquifers and making people's houses and property un-livable, and the letting out ozone-eating-methane.

When WE have ALL this blessed sunshine that could power peoples' energy needs - with NO waste! We live in the SUN-belt! For God's sake, People - Get your heads Out of the coal mines and into the 21st century! Clean Energy First! Think of our children and our children's children.
