Live To Welcome Change
Written May, 2017

Judge Rembert
Guest Columnist

Sometime you just have to live long enough...
Long enough for people to change...
Long enough for conditions to change...
Often you are unaware and then...
Then it happens...

Once she was a step mother...
She thought her step daughter liked her...
But once she married her father it all changed...
The marriage lasted a little over 3 years...
Not a happy time for teen daughter or step mother...

Wendy Peeler - Small Business Christmas Expo

Step mother really loved her step daughter...
But nothing worked...
OK..success is not always in the cards...
Don't always know why...

Step mother moved to another state...
Step daughter married and had daughters...
Almost 20 years had passed...
Step mother's phone rang...
Step daughter said “I am coming to your town...
Coming Saturday with my daughters. Can we meet?”

Step mother is shocked...”Well of course. Where and when?”
What was this about, she thought?...
Was this really a good idea...
Why did she agree?...
What did they have to talk about she thought...

Saturday arrived...
Well the day went by and all was pleasant...
Finally it was time to part...
Step daughter, “ Before you go I have something to say.
I want to tell you how sorry I am for the way...
The way I treated you when you were married to my father...

Now folks if the step mother had not lived to hear this...
It would have been a real loose for both of them...
When things seem impossible remember...
Remember what you do not always know...
Words can change your lives for good or bad...
Live and look forward to wonderful surprises...

---More About Judge Rembert: WWII made Judge an only child when her half-brother was killed in the war. She lived in a tiny town in South Carolina until she was eight and her Mother went to work. She was sent to a boarding school in Belmont, N.C. From that time on she has lived back and forth in the two Carolinas. They are both home. She was born dyslexic and did not know what the problem was or that it had a name until she was about 45. She was unable to spell so she never put words on paper until she was 65 and had a computer with spell check. She comes from a long line of story tellers and a Mother that taught her much by telling stories. Stories about people and how they faced life and how they dealt with problems. If you read what she writes you may hear her Mother and her Grandmother talking to her. She is thrilled to know that anyone reads her words and finds them interesting. Oh, she is 75 now and makes her home in Maiden, N.C. If you like Judge’s writings or would like to comment on them let her know by emailing judgerembert@bellsouth.net.
