One of the two people charged with beating a 96-year-old Shelby woman to death in June of last year entered a guilty plea in Superior Court this week and was sentenced to life in prison. Christopher Thomas Sizemore admitted his guilt in the killing of Mildred Blanton.

His co-defendant, Ashley Blanton Sanders remains jailed under a half million dollar bond awaiting trial. Blanton was Sanders' grandmother.

Sizemore had gone through several mental evaluations to determine if he was competent to stand trial. No date has yet been set for Sanders' trial.

In another case dating back to 2009, Ralph Hiebert pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison.

Hiebert and Samantha Davis Zander were charged in the death of Timothy Thomas, Zander's fiancé, who was fatally shot in August 2009.

Hiebert had been in jail since he was arrested. Zander is out of jail on a $225,000 bond. No date has yet been set for her trial.
