An Important Message From Lincolnton's City Manager

Steve Zickefoose, City Manager
Lincolnton, North Carolina

Thankfully, the City of Lincolnton and Lincoln County did not experience any direct impact from Hurricane Irma this past weekend. Except for some higher-than-normal winds and rain early this week we are lucky that Irma moved farther west and away from the Charlotte and western North Carolina area.

We extend our prayers to those in Irma’s path as they begin to recover and rebuild from this devastating emergency event. It will be a long process.

We want you to know that your City of Lincolnton government was prepared and ready to respond if Irma’s path placed Lincolnton in the danger zone. In cooperation with Lincoln County government officials, we activated our emergency operations plan to manage Irma impact in Lincolnton. These plans included emergency shelter set up, supplies and management needs along with utility protection and repair stand-by, mobility planning, and public safety needs. Our Police, Fire and Public Works departments were on-alert, on-call and ready to serve should we have needed them to assist with any storm issues.

While we are grateful to have not needed to activate any of our emergency plans, it was a good exercise to review our emergency preparedness plans.

One of the response plans we are working to improve is our ability to quickly and accurately communicate with all residents in the event of an emergency or crisis situation. All residents are strongly urged to review and update your City of Lincolnton Alert Center contact information at the link on the City of Lincolnton website. The Notify Me! Alert Center messages are the most reliable way for you to receive emergency communications and all are sent via email and text message based on your opt-in selections. Just enter your email address and cell number and then select the messages you want to receive.

In addition, you can opt-in for other City of Lincolnton messages and News Flash updates related to events, meetings and city business information. It’s a great way to stay up-to-date on Lincolnton news and information.
