Rabies Shot Clinics
ANIMAL SHELTER CLOSED WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
The Lincoln County Animal Shelter will be closed next Wednesday afternoon (June 20th).  They'll close at noon that day so the staff can undergo additional training.

Lincoln County Animal Services had to cancel last Saturday's rabies shot clinic at East Lincoln High School.  The clinics for this Saturday (June 16th) at Lincolnton Animal Hospital and next Saturday (June 23rd) at West Lincoln Veterinary Hospital are still scheduled as planned.  But because they had to cancel last Saturday's clinic, Animal Control is offering FREE one-year rabies shots for dogs and cats at the Animal Shelter on John Howell Memorial Drive.

Animal Services Director Hannah Beaver told the Lincoln Herald that the one-year shots will be FREE at the Shelter during the hours of 10 AM - 4:30 PM through Friday.  The cost at the clinics the next two Saturdays is $7.

Lincoln, Gaston and Cleveland counties have each had one confirmed case of rabies in a wild animal this year; Catawba County has had four.  The good news in cases where the wild animal--skunks, raccoons and a fox--came in contact with domestic animals is that all of those were current on their rabies vaccinations, so they only had to have a booster shot.

Three of the four cases in Catawba County were in the Maiden area, the other was near Hickory.  In Cleveland County, the case was near Shelby; and in Gaston County, in Bessemer City.  In Lincoln County, the rabies case was a dead fox found in a dog lot on Ritchie Road off Startown Road.

Rabies is still very widespread in the wild animal population throughout the area, and rabies vaccinations are required for all dogs and cats over four months old.  Shots are available at veterinarian's offices, but the clinics offer a convenient low-cost way to protect your animals.

The next rabies shot clinic in Catawba County, by the way, is set for July 7th at the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire Department on Slanting Bridge Road.  It will be from 10 AM until noon that day.

The Lincoln County clinics are this Saturday noon - 4 PM at Lincolnton Animal Hospital on N. Generals Blvd and next Saturday (June 23rd) at West Lincoln Veterinary Hospital on highway 27 near the Cat Square Road intersection, also from noon - 4 PM.  All dogs must be on a leash and all cats must be in carriers.  ...and if you come to the Animal Shelter at 650 John Howell Memorial Drive (off Wilma Sigmon Road) between 10 AM and 4:30 PM this Thursday or Friday, you can get a one-year shot FREE!
