HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - The SouthLake Christian Academy (SLCA) eighth grade class presented a check for $2,500 to Shining Hope Farms at the academy’s Wilcox Gym on March 24. The money will fund one year of care and upkeep for a Shining Hope Farm working horse, which helps those with disabilities improve their quality of life.

SLCA students raised the money during the months of December through February by working the academy’s athletic concessions stands, raising funds with bake sales and an ugly sweater contest, volunteering at Christmas at Davidson and family donations.

“Without help from volunteers such as you, Shining Hope Farms doesn’t exist,” said Shining Hope Farms Founder and Owner Paul Kirkpatrick to the SLCA students during the check presentation. “Our hardworking program horses require considerable care to ensure they are always ready for service to meet our busy lesson schedule. Your sponsorship of one of our amazing four-legged heroes makes a life-changing difference for our (Shining Hope Farms’) students.”

Shining Hope Farms was founded in 2002 in Mount Holly, N.C. in response to the needs of the community to provide therapeutic services in an enriching farm environment. The program enables children and adults with disabilities to achieve functional goals through the use of equine assisted activities and hippotherapy. Shining Hope Farms is structured to serve individuals and groups with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down syndrome, Developmental Disabilities, Brain Injuries, Hypotonia, to name a few.
