"This is the biggest crowd we've ever had," commented one long-time Democratic leader.  The Catawba Springs Township Democrats held their annual Reunion Fish Fry Saturday at Beatty's Ford Park on Lake Norman.

Randy Ross and Kevin Johnson cooked up the fish and others supplied the fixin's and desserts.

David Wilson Brown of McAdenville, one of two announced candidates who plan to run against Patrick McHenry in next year's election, attended, spoke briefly, and spent much of the evening talking with and listening to fellow Democrats.

Brown said he's encouraged by what he's hearing from travels around the 10th district.  (He was in Asheville for another meeting earlier in the afternoon.)

"McHenry has a huge warchest," he told us.  "...thanks to the people who own his vote.  It's going to take a grassroots effort for any Democrat to beat him.  But people are concerned that they've been overlooked in favor of McHenry's wealthy supporters.  They're concerned about healthcare and other issues.  They're recognizing that we need a change."

Brown's only announced opponent for the Democratic nomination, Kenneth Queen, did not attend.  He's scheduled to speak at the Lincoln County Democratic Women's October meeting (Oct.12th).  Brown spoke at their September meeting.
