LINCOLNTON, N.C. – The Lincolnton-Lincoln County PACTS program held a picnic for some 900 first graders Wednesday, October 11 that taught safety and provided them with a picnic to cap off the day.

The PACTS (Protecting Area Children Through Safety) program started last year as a combination of the former Adopt-A-Cop program and the Fire Safety program. Area fire departments, EMS, and law enforcement representatives set up displays including smoke houses for the kids to teach them the theme of this year’s event which was “always find two ways out”.

Representatives from the City of Lincolnton and Lincoln County volunteered to assist in this year’s program including the Safe Kids Coalition of Lincoln County, Lincolnton Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County Firemen’s Association, Lincoln County EMS, along with city and county parks employees.

Topics covered for the 1st graders from Lincoln County Schools, and charter and private schools were Stranger Danger, Bullying, Self Defense, and the fire departments “Two Ways Out” presentation. Students also received tours of law enforcement, fire and emergency vehicles.

Donations from area businesses and individuals helped make the picnic possible for the students.
