Land Use Plan Nears Finalization

Wayne Howard
Staff Writer

Staff from the Lincoln County Planning & Inspections Department will host a series of public meetings designed to gain input for the 2017 future land use plan that has been drafted and refined over the past year.

The land use plan as a whole is a collective vision for the future – a framework for how Lincoln County should grow and how development should take place over the next several years. The plan includes a set of principles, objectives and strategies to provide for orderly growth by forging links between land use, public utility networks, transportation infrastructure, and community facilities.

The plan is a policy document that provides guidance for making zoning decisions--with a map that designates specific areas as suitable for certain types of development. It is a means to balance competing interests, protect public investments, preserve natural and historic resources, promote economic development, enhance public health and to shape the appearance of the community.

The goal of this series of drop-in meetings is to gain input on the current state of the future land use maps prior to holding a public hearing on the maps in November.

The first of the meetings will be this Thursday (Oct. 19th) at the Lincoln County Shrine Club, 1470 Cat Square Road, Vale. The meeting is scheduled for 6 - 8 PM and those attending are welcome to come at any time during those two hours. Staff members will be on hand to answer any questions.

The second of the meetings will be next Tuesday (Oct. 24th) at the East Lincoln Community Center, 8160 Optimist Club Road, Denver. Hours there are also 6 - 8 PM.

The final meeting in this series will be next Thursday (Oct. 26th) 6 - 8 PM at the James W. Warren Citizens Center, 115 W. Main St. in Lincolnton.

For those who cannot make the meetings and for those who attend and want to take more time with the maps, you are invited to use a community input portal. This portal can be accessed by CLICKING HERE.
