LINCOLNTON, N.C. – The parent of a 14-year-old teen has been issued a criminal summons in connection with an accidental shooting that left a 15-year-old teen injured.

Detective Frank Runyon served the criminal summons on Jerry Lee McVey, 49, of Campground Road, Denver, N.C. He is facing one misdemeanor count of storage of firearms to protect minors and is scheduled to appear in Lincoln County District Court on November 17, 2017.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a mobile home park in the 7600 block of Campground Road around 5:45 p.m., October 22, 2017, when one of the teens ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

Detectives say a group of about five teens were playing a game they described as trying to get through the door into the mobile home.  A 15-year-old white male was entering the mobile home when a 14-year-old white male fired a shot from a 12-gauge shotgun.  The blast from about three feet away grazed the teen’s chest, went through the wall of the mobile home and into an outbuilding. There were no adults at the residence when the incident occurred.

Lincoln County EMS transported the victim to CHS-Main where he was treated for his injuries and released to his parents. Three other teens witnessed the incident. The Juvenile Justice office has been notified about the incident
