Ask--and you may receive. When Keith Gaskill and his committee started working on raising funds to renovate the second floor of the Chamber offices at the corner of East Main Street and the Courtsquare last February, it was thought that it might take quite some time to raise what was necessary. Bob Hecht, who served on the committee, gave a generous donation. There were others.

Requests were made for grants from industries, among them the Timken Foundation. On October 10th, the meeting of the Chamber's Board of Directors got a big surprise. The Timken Foundation announced that it had approved a grant to the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce for $150,000. Gaskill, immediate past Chair of the Board, made the announcement, saying that the grant money would be used specifically for renovating the upstairs of the Chamber.

In showing its appreciation for receiving the grant from the Timken Foundation, the Chamber’s Board of Directors voted to dedicate the Chamber building in the name of The Timken Foundation for Outstanding Support and Community Involvement. Renaming the building would require significant work because it's listed on the register of historic buildings--but hereafter, it will certainly be known appropriately as the Timken Building. Work is expected to begin soon and a ceremony and open house are planned when it is completed.

"We're fortunate to have many wonderful corporate citizens in our county," Gaskill said. "The Timken Company has been very generous not only to the Chamber but to a variety of community efforts."
