Storm Cleanup Continues After Monday Tornadoes

Wayne Howard
Staff Writer

It wasn't just strong winds; the National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday that there were at least two tornadoes that struck Cleveland County on Monday.  Other tornadoes were also reported north of Hickory and in Burke County.

In Cleveland County, the recovery continued.  As of late Wednesday, Cleveland County roads still listed as partially or totally closed by the North Carolina Department of Transportation included:
  • Rehobeth Church Road
  • Ken McEntyre Road
  • Belwood-Lawndale Road
  • Guy Warlick Road
  • Woodrow Hoyle Road
  • Casar-Lawndale Road
  • Bald Mountain Road
  • Carpenter Hoyle Road
  • Vic Randall Road
Schools in the Burns Zone of Cleveland County operated on a two-hour delay in opening again Thursday morning.  Schools in the Crest, Kings Mountain, and Shelby attendance zones operated on a normal schedule.  All schools were told to end the day at the regular time.

There were still some cases of electrical outages in both Cleveland and Burke counties.
