LINCOLNTON—The Lincolnton Police Department nabbed two suspects in connection with a Monday morning robbery.

According to LPD Lt. Brian Greene, the robbery-with-a-dangerous-weapon incident occurred at about 8:15 a.m., when two white males entered the Times Turn-Around No. Two Convenience Store at 851 S. Laurel St. in Lincolnton. Both males were wearing hoodies and had bandanas covering their faces, as Greene informed.

“One of the males was brandishing a black handgun,” he said, “and the other was brandishing a knife. The two males told the clerks to give them the money. The male in the gray hoodie held the clerks at gunpoint and stood in front of the counter, and the male in the dark-colored hoodie went behind the counter with the clerks. The male in the dark-colored hoodie had a knife with him and forced one of the clerks to open a cash register and give him the money out of it. After getting the money, the male that had the knife turned around and took several packs of cigarettes off of the shelf. Both males then exited the store and ran across the road toward Tait Street.”

LPD Det. Dwayne McAllister responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses as officers from the Lincolnton Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office searched the area for the suspects.

LPD Officer Tyler Hart recently finished advanced training that concentrated on the tracking of suspected criminals. A short time after the robbery, Hart was able to pick up the path of the suspects, and he began tracking their movements using said training. After some 40 minutes, Hart was able to locate the two suspects in a nearby wooded area, as Greene informed.

“The suspects were sitting on the ground,” he said, “and had a black BB pistol, bandanas, three packs of Newport cigarettes and $106 in US currency lying on the ground near them. The evidence was recovered, and both suspects were arrested without incident. The Lincolnton Police Department was able to capture the two suspects through the teamwork of the detectives and officers involved in the case, as well as the officers of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.”
