While the main remnants of Hurricane Nate trekked far to the west of our area, the easternmost outer bands from the storm produced tornadoes Sunday in Cleveland, Burke and Caldwell counties. A fireman was killed removing debris from a road in Burke.  In Lincolnton, an early evening storm knocked out power to half the city.

The aftermath of the storm cost one Burke County fireman his life.
