When  Ana Ochoa visited a primary school recently wearing her crown, the children there were excited to get to meet a princess. Actually, they were meeting a queen--Lincoln County’s recently crowned Apple Queen, Ana Acela Perez Ochoa. You’ll get a chance to meet her this Saturday at the Apple Festival.

Ana will be spending much of the day at the Lincolnton Business and Professional Women’s Club location on the east side of the Courthouse.  She’ll be there most of the time from  9 AM – 4 PM.  She will go briefly to the north side of the Courthouse for a photo with Carolina Panthers mascot Sir Purr, who’ll be there from 11 until noon. Hickory Crawdads mascot Conrad will be among  those stopping  by for pictures with Ana. Other members of the Apple Queen court will also spend time at the BPW tent.

Ana, a senior honor student at West Lincoln High School, plans to attend UNC-Charlotte after graduation. Her family  moved here two years ago from Matanzas City, Cuba. Her brother Manny graduated from West Lincoln last Spring. Ana’s parents own and operate a  Cuban-American restaurant in Concord. Manny attends Gaston College and works full-time at Olive Garden. In addition to school, Ana works part-time at both the YMCA and Fatz Café.

When Ana was crowned as Lincoln County’s 39th Apple Queen, she became the first Cuban-American winner. Ana says apples were not a popular fruit in Cuba, but she’s learned to enjoy them since moving to Lincoln County.

Be sure to stop by the BPW tent on the east side of the Courthouse Saturday and say hello to Ana. Members of the Lincolnton BPW will be with her and invite you to learn more about the BPW while you visit.
