We copied these from national compilations, so local stores may or may not be participating. In most cases, your DD214 or military ID card will be needed to get the discounts.

In addition to these discounts from nationally affiliated restaurants and stores, this seems an appropriate time to remind everyone about the "Thank You for Your Service" program initiated this Summer by Lincoln County Register of Deeds Danny Hester and Veterans Service Officer Alex Patton.

The program had a kickoff day on October 4th and a number of vets came by the Register of Deeds office that day, but vets (and businesses) can sign up any time.

The program involves a service available at the Register of Deeds office, where veterans are encouraged to record their discharge papers (DD214) at no charge. If they were already recorded, the Register of Deeds office will provide a card--also free of charge. That card can then be used at participating businesses who have signed on to the program agreeing to give a special discount to veterans.

Veterans Service Officer Patton told us, "in case a veteran does not have currently have a DD214, he or she needs to stop by the Veterans Service Office at 206 Gamble Drive and one can be ordered. It takes about four weeks to receive the document once it is ordered. Then take the DD214 to the Register of Deeds office and Danny will put it on file and issue a card."

Hester added, "This program is open to any business. For those who want to be a part of it, contact me at the Register of Deeds office or Alex at the Veterans Service office. Either of us will be glad to explain the program in more detail and get you signed up. As a participant, you will receive a sign for your business that identifies you as a veteran friendly business and a member of this program. As a Lincoln County business there is no easier way to say 'thank you' than to be a part of this program."
