THURSDAY May 17th

Reception Honoring Shirley Smith
The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will hold a drop-in reception at the Chamber offices at 101 E. Main Street in Lincolnton this Thursday 4 - 6 PM honoring Shirley Smith on her recent retirement after over 20 years of serrvice to the Chamber.  For more information, call 704-735-3096.

Downtown Hickory Art Crawl

The Downtown Hickory Art Crawl brings artists, art demonstrations, and music to downtown Hickory. More than 60 artists will be displaying their creations in a four city block area. There will be pottery, paintings, woodworking, photography and more. The Kick-Off Party begins at 5 PM at Full Circle Arts, 42-B Third Street NW, where the reception for the Tiny Art Show will be held. W End your evening at the Tap Room with live music or see Ragtime being presented by the Hickory Community Theatre. For more information call 828-322-1121.


FRIDAY May 18th

Law Enforcement Memorial Service (Hickory)
A Memorial service honoring law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at Catawba Memorial Park, 3060 Highway 70 SE in Hickory. A wreath laying ceremony, playing of bagpipes and Taps, and an honor guard firing a 21-gun salute will be included in the program. Keynote speaker will be R. Andrew Murray, United States Attorney, Western District of North Carolina. For more information, call the Catawba County Fraternal Order of Police office at 828-695-1704.

Belmont Friday Night Live
Belmont's Friday Night Live concert series continues Friday night with Blackwater Rhythm & Blues. Other concerts are every two weeks all summer.

Gastonia Summer Concerts
Gastonia kicks off its Summer Concerts series at the Rotary Pavilion Friday evening with the Chairmen of the Board.

Sails Music Series (Hickory)
The Sails Music Series at Union Square in downtown Hickory continues every Friday night through September. This series of concerts features artists you may not have heard elsewhere--some of them up & coming stars of the future. The lineup for May includes May 18th – Amanda Anne Platt and the Honeycutters, May 25th – Mason Via and Hot Trail Mix. Admission is free.

Gaston County Parks & Rec Summer Movie
Gaston County Parks & Recreation's 2018 Summer Movie Series at the Dallas Park Horse Arena, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Highway, is set to begin this week and continue on the third Friday nights in June, July and August. Admission is FREE and so is the popcorn. They'll be selling pizza and canned soft drinks. Movies will begin at sunset. This week's movie is "Beauty and the Beast." Others this summer are
June 15 - "Jumanji"
July 20 - "Cars 3"
August 17 - "Spiderman Homecoming"

SATURDAY May 19th

Risen Church Yard Sale
Risen Church at 571 Salem Church Road will have a yard sale this Saturday from 7 AM - 1 PM.  They'll also have a bake sale and will be selling hot dogs.  Proceeds will go to the Fellowship Building fund.

Vesuvius Furnace Annual Meeting & Awards Day

The DAR Vesuvius Furnace Chapter will host this meeting 10 AM until noon at the Mundy House annex, 4353 highway 16-business north of Denver. First, the chapter will hold its annual meeting to share achievements and celebrate them. Second, they will honor Carole Rowell and Patty Korn for their service to the East Lincoln Community.

Music in the Park (Denver)
The Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club will hold its first Music in the Park event of this summer Saturday at the Rescue Squad Park on Galway Drive across from Lincoln Charter School's Denver location. Others are planned for June 16th, July 21st and August 18th. This year's Denver Days is set for September 21st & 22nd. Saturday's event gets underway with food trucks and beer & wine available for purchase at 4 PM. JAGZ will play from 6 to 8 PM and Thirsty Horses from 8:30-10.
There is no charge for admission.

"Firmly Rooted" Exhibition at Gallery 27
The “Firmly Rooted” exhibition will run May 19-Aug. 31 at Gallery 27 on highway 27 west in Lincolnton. An opening reception will be held at 7 PM this Saturday. The exhibit features the works of Stacey Pilkington Smith and Liz McKay.

Chubby Checker at Don Gibson Theatre (Shelby)
Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Chubby Checker will be at the Don Gibson Theatre on S. Washington St. in Shelby for two shows this Saturday--one at 5:30, the other at 8:30. Tickets are still available for both--prices are $40 to $48.

North Lincoln Musical Revue
Saturday night at 7:30, the North Lincoln Drama Department will be performing a Musical Revue. This performance will include musical numbers from "Lala Land," "Frozen," "Phantom of the Opera," "Anastasia," "Waitress," "The Little Mermaid," "Godspell," "Grease" and much more! Best of all, admission is FREE!

SUNDAY May 20th

Little Miss Lincoln County Pageant
The 4th Annual Little Miss Lincoln County Pageant happens at 2 PM Sunday, May 20th. These young ladies will have a fun-filled year representing Lincoln County at various local events, including the Lincoln County Apple Queen pageant, Apple Festival, and Lincolnton Christmas Parade.

Hickory Choral Society Pops Concert
The Hickory Choral Society will present a free outdoor Pops Concert Sunday at 6 PM Under the Sails at Union Square in downtown Hickory.  Bring your picnic and folding chairs and enjoy a concert of patriotic tunes, folk music, old movie favorites and a tribute to the military.
