39th Apple Queen Pageant With 21 Contestants This Saturday
The biggest Apple Queen Pageant ever with 21 contestants gets underway Saturday, August 5 at the James W. Warren Citizens Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the event starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and children 12 and under.

A raccoon killed by a Lincoln County resident and picked up by Animal Control has tested positive for rabies. The raccoon was picked up on June 24 and the official test results were received from the NC Laboratory of Public Health on June 28.
