LINCOLNTON, N.C.––We all scream for ice cream!

And so will you, when Christian Ministry of Lincoln County presents its annual benefit fundraiser, the “Cool Event” ice cream social, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. at Salem Lutheran and United Church of Christ, located at 3410 Startown Road in Lincolnton. According to Christian Ministry Executive Director Mitzi Williams, tickets for the ice cream social are $15 each, and this includes a homemade pottery bowl and ice cream. All of the proceeds from this event will benefit Christian Ministry’s soup kitchen.

And speaking of the soup kitchen, Williams reminded donors that it needs canned broths, cream of soups and mashed potatoes. Relatedly, the food pantry needs soup, rice, detergent, canned beans, dry beans, oatmeal, grits, cooking oil and macaroni and cheese.

And talking of food, the ministry’s LINC Home Meals programs helps countless local seniors and shut-ins. Are you free Wednesday, Thursday or Friday?

If you are, Williams noted, you could make a difference to someone in need of lunch by helping “feed some of our homebound clients. We really could use you between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. To be a driver for the LINC Meals program, training will be provided. Don’t miss this opportunity to share God’s love.”

She added that those interested may call the ministry at (704) 732-0383 or send e-mail queries to lincmeals@aol.com

Other events

In other news, Williams mentioned another upcoming benefit event: the annual golf tournament for Christian Ministry, Sept. 22 at the Lincolnton Country Club.

“We have started to see people sponsor golf holes!” she informed. “This is a great way to get your name out there and help the ministry. Everyone that sponsors a golf hole (for $100) gets a sign on the golf course during our tournament, and they get their names in the ads we put in the local paper. Come on out and play!”

And she also released the schedule for church volunteer food-packers:

  • Aug. 14-17, Daniels Lutheran;
  • Aug. 18, Lincoln Avenue Baptist;
  • Aug. 21-25, Faith Baptist;
  • Aug. 28-30 Iron Station and High Shoals United Methodist churches;
  • and Aug. 31-Sept. 1, Boger City Wesleyan.
Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is located at 207 S. Poplar St. in Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-0383 or (704) 732-2691 for more information.
