St. Luke’s Lutheran Supper, Saturday, January 13 --- St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4051 King Wilkinson Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092 will host a supper in their Family Life Center on Saturday, January 13 with live bluegrass and gospel music from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Variety of meats, vegetables and desserts. All you can eat (eat-in), or generous portions (take-out). Lowesville Gospel Concerts, Lumber River Quartet and The Childers Family, Saturday, January 13 --- The Lumber River Quartet and the Childers Family from Lincolnton will be in concert on Saturday, January 13 at Living Word Ministries, 1062 Hwy 16 South in Lowesville/Stanley. The concert will start at 6 p.m. This concert is free and everyone is welcome. Morning Star Baptist, Spirit of King Community Service, Sunday, January 14 --- The annual Spirit of King Community Service will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Morning Star First Baptist Church, 126 4th Ave SW, Hickory, NC 28602 celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A mass choir made up local choirs will sing led by Min. of Music Zachary Martin of Exodus Missionary Outreach Church. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Clifford A. Jones, senior pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte. The Spirit of King Award will be given to an individual from the Hickory area who embodies the spirit of Dr. King's legacy of inclusion of people of all races and cultures, making our community a better place to live for all people. First UMC Hickory, Brain Injury Support Group, Tuesday, January 23 --- The Brain Injury Support Group will meet Tuesday, January 23 at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 311 3rd Ave. NE, Hickory, NC 28601. At this meeting Dr. Jessica Urzen, Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medical Director, will speak about how physiatrists help patients manage neuro-recovery with brain injury and spinal cord injury.  This talk will provide a brief overview of brain injury statistics, how neurophysiology is altered after injury, and what we can do about it. Church Security Session For Catawba County, Thursday, January 25 --- The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is offering a training session for church representatives in Catawba County interested in learning about church security.  Trainings will be led by the Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Deputy.  Scheduled training session: Thursday, January 25, 2017 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.: Tri City Baptist Church Sanctuary, 1409 North Carolina Highway 16 North, Conover, NC, 28613. It is suggested that the church security team, greeters, ushers, or any other church leadership should attend the session. Those with additional questions may call Lt. John Helton at (828) 465-8336. Boger City UMC Community Luncheon, Sunday, January 28 --- A community luncheon will be held on Sunday, January 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Boger City United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 2320 East Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092. Everyone is welcome. Menu includes meat loaf, chicken teriyaki, two vegetables, homemade desserts, tea and water. An $8 donation is requested per person. Dine-in or carryout plates available.  Proceeds benefit the church mission projects.  Sunday School will be held at 9:30 a.m. and Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. Parking located behind Fellowship Hall. St. Peter-By-The-Lake Episcopal: Alexander Community Concert Series, Sunday, January 28 --- The second concert of the series on Sunday, January 28 at 3 p.m. will present Andrea Mumm, harpist, with Melinda Whittington, vocalist. The duo will mesmerize you with their special performance.  A reception to meet and greet the musicians will follow each performance. General admission is $15 for Adults, $10 for Seniors (65+) and Students, Children under 12 are free. Tickets available at the door or in advance by calling 704-489-6249.
