Ministry Calls For Volunteers To Lend A Hand
Getting a jump on spring cleaning

LINCOLNTON, N.C.––No, it’s not spring yet.

But after the recent arctic chill, this midwinter respite of warm weather feels like spring, as Christian Ministry Executive Director Mitzi Williams noted Thursday. And with that in mind, Williams said it’s time to get a jump on some spring cleaning at the ministry’s Poplar Street facilities.

“It’s not spring,” she observed. “But we’re acting as if it is!”

She explained that Christian Ministry is getting a new makeover. Noted ministry volunteer John Hall is requesting any men’s and women’s and any civic organizations or Scout troops to come and lend a hand in painting, plumbing and electrical work.

“And just plain muscle power,” Williams added. “The most prevalent need is for painters.”

Can you help? Call Hall at 704-718-7086 if you’re able to assist Christian Ministry with its new look.

In other news, Williams reminded that the ministry’s annual meeting is Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at Boger City United Methodist Church, located at 2320 E. Main St. in Lincolnton. The public and all those interested in volunteering are invited to learn more about what Christian Ministry does precisely and how they can help it continue in its worthy mission to help the less fortunate.

And the Souper Bowl of Caring is coming up on Feb. 4. This annual event benefits the ministry’s soup kitchen. Those interested in helping are encouraged to make monetary and canned-food item donations to the ministry.

And speaking of the soup kitchen, Williams pointed out that March 30 (Good Friday) remains an open date. If anyone can help volunteer in the soup kitchen on that date, call her at (704) 732-0383. Plus, the kitchen needs beef broth, chicken broth, canned chicken and canned milk, as well as non-plastic hairnets. With January and February being the ministry’s biggest soup months, there is a big demand now for all types of soup.

Members from local churches are scheduled to help pack food on the following dates:

  • Marvin United Methodist, Jan. 16-19;
  • First Methodist of Lincolnton, Jan. 22-26;
  • Pisgah Methodist, Jan. 29-Feb. 2;
  • Hull’s Grove West, Feb. 5-9;
  • Bess’s Chapel Methodist, Feb.12-14;
  • North Brook Baptist, Feb. 15-16;
  • Daystar Family Worship, Feb. 19-21;
  • Maiden Wesleyan, Feb. 22-23;
  • and Salem Baptist, Feb. 26-March 2.

The ministry will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 15.

Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is located at 207 S. Poplar St. in Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-0383 or (704) 732-2691 for more details.
