What You Do Matters
The musical
The musical "Trail of Treasures" will be presented by the J-O-Y and SONshine Kids Choirs (Grades 1-5) on Sunday, May 20, at 5 pm in the First Baptist Church sanctuary. Also, the Cherub Choir and the Children’s Bell Choir will be singing and playing selections. Please be present to encourage and support the children of FBC and their leaders.

The closest some will ever get to reading the Bible may be the life you live in front of them. That’s a significant realization. Your actions matter. Your conduct matters. Your life matters to someone whether you know it or not. If you are going to represent the message of the Bible well, you should endeavor to know it yourself. ‘Study to show your-self approved by God’ resonates with this instruction. Prepare to be God’s servant and representative as you go out into the world.

Preparing to be the servant of God has several elements of readiness. Prayer is a great start with Bible Study. Fellowshipping with other Christians who are growing in their faith adds to the readiness for serving. Finally we cannot neglect worship as a key component of service. It would be no use to gain each of these foundational components of service and not serve. Missions then rounds out the example of Godliness others may see in you as representing the nature of our Lord.

Missions have varied paths which one can take. For some this may look like evangelism, while others may look much like painting a house or reroofing a home. Service employs a variety of spiritual gifts to honor and glorify God. I will never forget the time a group of men travelled east to a hurricane ravaged area in North Carolina. Our job was to reroof a house not finished by relief workers earlier in the recovery process. While we were there we discovered the house was unable to be restored because a beam had warped out of position in the flooding that had occurred. There happened to be an engineer in our group who knew just what to do. With a few hours work we had re-stabilized the floor in its rightful position making it possible for the floor boards to return to their right position. Something we had done every day, except this time, the owner of the house asked us to join him and his wife for a moment to say thank you. We gathered together and they came out of the FEMA trailer they were staying in so we all could meet. The woman said thank you and proceeded to talk of plans she wanted to accomplish of which one was go to church and thank God. That seemed fine to all of us until we learned from her husband, it was the first time she had been out of the trailer in two months and the first time she had been to church in her years as an adult. For the husband it was a true miracle while for a group of tired men who had made this trip on the weekend of their busy lives it was one more job completed for their Lord.

Who might you serve today for the sake of Christ our Lord?
