LINCOLNTON, N.C.––Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is gearing up for its summertime activities.

That’s the word this week from its executive director, Mitzi Williams.

“I hope everyone’s summer is off to a wonderful start!” she said. “Here at the ministry, we have a lot of things going on! First, we are in the middle of our annual Business Blitz fundraiser, and I am happy to report that the businesses are being very supportive! We will give everyone time to take part, and then we will list all the supporting companies so you can give them your support.”

Secondly, as Williams continued, there’s the ministry’s annual benefit golf tournament, coming up Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Lincoln Country Club. The cost is $60 for 18 holes, two mulligans, snacks, door prizes and dinner.

Don’t play golf? You can sponsor a hole for $100, says Williams.

“This will get your name on a sign on one of the golf holes,” she said. “Come on out, have fun and help a good cause!”

Thirdly, the ministry is in the process of making significant changes to its annual Hunger Walk fundraiser, coming up Oct. 21.

“It’s going to be fun, so stay tuned for more information that will keep your groups busy this summer!” Williams said. “Let me stop a minute. I know you are thinking, What’s with all the fundraisers? Well, they are vital to the ministry. It takes every penny collected to continue to meet the needs of those in our community. Information about the golf tournament and the hunger fundraiser will be mailed to each church and will be in future newsletters. Please consider getting involved.”

Also new and upcoming, as Williams added, will be a Christian Ministry Website.

“Yes,” she said, “we are finally going to have one! So stay tuned for that as well. While all of that is going on, we are still here helping those in need. In the month of May, we helped 1,907 individuals with food. We served 4,165 individuals in the soup kitchen, and 1,622 meals went out through LINC meals. That’s a lot of food!

“Please have a wonderful, safe summer!” she continued. “While you are doing that, remember the ministry, the volunteers, those we serve and the staff in your prayers.”

In other news, Williams noted that the Wishy-Washies, a local children’s group, recently visited the ministry.

“A group of 40 young kindergartners from Union Elementary in Vale came to donate 1,011 bars of soap,” she said. “The Wishy-Washy group has a soap drive every year at their school, and they all come to drop off their individual bags to the ministry. I gave the group the full tour of our ministry and explained in their kindergarten language why we are here and who we serve. Why do we need soap? The children leave with an understanding that we are here to help people that are in need of food, payment assistants with light bills and rent and yes, soap. Thank you to all the kids, teachers and parents of Union Elementary School. Having a charitable heart for others is not always reserved for the adults. Thank God for the little children!”

Christian Ministry is located at 230 E. Water St. in Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-2691 for more information.
