Senior Games Registration Starts Jan. 31
LINCOLNTON––They may be silver, but they’re going for the gold.
Yes, it’s time once again to get ready for the annual Lincoln County Senior Games. Lincoln County Parks and Recreation and Lincoln County Senior Services, along with the Arts Council of Lincoln County, this week announced the details for the 2020 Lincoln County Senior Games Program. It’s open to all residents who are 50 years of age or older, according to parks and rec director John Davis.
The games offer seniors opportunities to participate in both artistic and athletic competitions. The goal of the Lincoln County Senior Games program is creating opportunities for seniors to enjoy fun, fitness and fellowship through their participation, as Davis noted.
He continued that registration for the games opens Friday, Jan. 31, and it ends Monday, March 2. Early-bird registration is only $10. Registration packets are available now at the parks and recreation office in Lincolnton on Gamble Drive, the East Lincoln Community Center in Denver, the Lincoln County Senior Center in Lincolnton at 612 Center Drive and the Lincoln Cultural Center. You must pre-register to participate.
The games will begin this year with the silver arts competition in March. This will be followed by the athletic competitions, also beginning in March and running through early June.
Opening ceremonies will be held at Lincolnton High School Stadium on Saturday, March 28, at 9 a.m. After the games this spring, participants can earn the chance to compete on the state level come autumn.
If you’d like to learn more about the games, you can attend the kick-off event, Jan. 31, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Lincoln County Senior Center. At this event, seniors can try out a few of the events, view silver arts samples, enjoy fellowship and refreshments and get registered for the games.
