LINCOLNTON––You might say that she’s running toward success.

She’s track-and-field standout Anne Davin. According to North Lincoln High counselor Laura Thornhill, Davin recently tied for fourth-place honors in the school’s 229-member class of 2020. And the student with whom she tied is none other than her twin brother, Ryan Davin (see upcoming coverage, only here in The Herald).

Thornhill spoke further about a unique feature that North Lincoln’s class of ’20 has.

“Amazingly,” she said, “we have five sets of twins in this class!”

And Wednesday, Miss Davin told us more about herself. Come August, she’ll be attending the University of Florida on a full academic scholarship to major in environmental engineering.

“At the university,” she said, “I will be a part of the honors program, as well as an undergraduate research scholars program established in the university. In the next 10 years, I hope to obtain a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Florida and go on to get a master’s degree in either management or an environmental-related field. I hope to study abroad in college, as well as pursue internships during the summer and school year. Ultimately, after college, I would like to move back to the North Carolina area for my career and work in either the renewable energy or ecological engineering sector, helping to combat climate change and ensure the stability of local ecosystems.

“If there’s anything that graduating during the COVID-19 pandemic has taught me, it is to never take the little moments and things for granted,” she continued, “and that it’s the littlest moments of high school that you will miss the most. I never imagined I would miss seeing my friends each morning in the hallway, just smiling and waving to a teacher in the doorway or standing in a congested hallway during class change.”

And to the incoming class of 2021, Davin offered advice.

“As you enter your last year of high school,” she said, “soak in the memories. Go to sporting events you never would have before. Help plan school functions that you would have never been interested in helping with, and soak in your last moments as a high schooler. School should be your priority, and you should take full responsibility for all of your actions. But remember to stop and enjoy the small moments as you race towards adulthood and all that comes with it.”
