CC Seniors Morning Out Enjoy Water Color Class
CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. - Participants from Catawba County’s five Seniors Morning Out sites recently completed a water-color class from the safety of their own homes.
Ginny Zellmer, with the Hickory Museum of Art, created a watercolor kit complete with supplies and step-by-step instructions that were provided to 180 seniors for them to complete. Participating seniors had the option of following along with Ms. Zellmer in a YouTube video or following the step-by-step instructions that were included in the kit.
This project was supported by the United Arts Council of Catawba County through the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, with funding from the State of North Carolina from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Catawba County Senior Nutrition programs has continued to serve approximately 450 seniors each operating day during the pandemic. Approximately 40% of the seniors served are living at or below the poverty level and 47% live alone. Seniors Morning Out and Meals on Wheels are much more than a nutritious meal. These programs are a social connection and a safety check for seniors. Surveyed senior meal recipients report that Meals on Wheels helps them remain in their homes and that having meals delivered improves their mood.
