NEWTON, N.C. -- Maiden Elementary students and staff resumed their annual “March for Success” this morning (May 19, 2022) after a three-year hiatus due to COVID. Decked out in their school t-shirts, holding banners representing their graduating class, excited PK through 6th grade students and staff made their way through the streets of Maiden to nearby Maiden High School. Led by local law enforcement, the Maiden High JROTC colorguard, and the Maiden High School drumline, the parade was cheered on by local business and community members along the route and welcomed to the high school campus by the Class of 2022.

Maiden’s “March for Success” was founded in 1989 by then Maiden Elementary principal, Marilyn McRee, who joined the parade today. Current Maiden Elementary Principal Shannon Plemmons voiced the importance of continuing the community tradition, citing that “success looks different for each individual” and “celebrating their successes together is a vital part of what makes the Maiden community special.”

The program included a message by Maiden High School Principal Brian Hefner, who shared the three things needed for success, “show up, pay attention, and do your work.” The program also included inspiring messages presented by elementary and high school students.
