Monday night (June 19th) School Superintendent Dr. Aaron Allen told Commissioners that at last week's School Board meeting, the board had voted unanimously to ask Commissioners to fund SROs for all the elementary schools.
During the public comments portion of the meeting, four of the five people who spoke told Commissioners they wanted SROs at the elementary schools.
Some of the cost of SROs at high schools and middle schools is paid by the state, but Dr. Allen noted that because Lincoln County is considered a prosperous county and is rated tier 3 (the highest rating and least eligible for help from the state), the County may have to pay the full bill for more SROs for the elementary schools.
Allen's presentation didn't speak about the cost of the SROs; and there has been no discussion of the cost in the public portions of Commissioners' meetings.
Commissioners approved some personnel realignment at Lincoln County Animal Services. Jana Aviles, who became the director of Animal Services March 28th and Candy Stevens, the County's HRO specialist, presented Aviles request to Commissioners and they gave it unanimous approval.
If you're looking for a commercial property, the former Homestead's restaurant location may again be available. County Attorney Megan Gilbert reported to Commissioners that work had been completed for the County to back out of a purchase of the property located on N. Generals Blvd. adjacent to the County Administration building. Commissioners had voted last year to buy the former restaurant building for expansion of their IT operation and storage.
