It’s about making good men even better.

It’s the fourth annual “Greater Purpose of a Godly Man” Men’s Conference, and it’s coming up on Saturday, April 27, 1-4 p.m. The place to be for this free event is the gymnasium of the Victory Christian Academy in Gastonia, according to gospel singer, computer education expert and photojournalist Bill Ward of Stanley. The academy is part of the South Gastonia Church of God campus, located at 310 Carolina Ave. in Gastonia. And the conference’s title comes from Ward’s well-known podcast of the same name, now in its second year, in which he speaks with local pastors, leaders and others in inspirational half-hour conversations.

As he told The Herald this weekend, as of press time, more than 150 attendees are expected. The Jonathan Fletcher Quartet will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Molded Clay will perform praise-and-worship music. This year’s speakers include State Rep. Donnie Loftus, Dr. Paul Brintley, Pastor Shannon Williams, district court judges Ed Bogle and Craig Collins, Zechary Singh, Bishop Claude Williams, George Zambratta, Sam Bethea and Ravon Nichols.

“Speakers will, as in the first three years, present messages of inspiration, motivation and encouragement to the men in attendance,” said Ward. “With the cultural attacks on men and the increasing demands, this will be a time for them to be uplifted and focused on the godly men they are intended to be. The entire event is free, including refreshments, great door prizes, event souvenirs and information from various ministries.”

Also on a recent program was Dr. Paul Brintley.

Charlotte-based television weatherman Al Conklin has provided video promo’s opening the event for the past four years. Collins and Bishop Williams have spoken in some capacity each year, along with Ward, who works with a large team of men at the South Gastonia Church of God.

As of this writing, “The Greater Purpose” weekly video podcast garners more than 8,000 views a week. Available on You-Tube and featuring more than 54 episodes so far, it’s an extension of the men’s conference. It has featured many of the speakers scheduled to speak April 27.
