LINCOLNTON––The annual “Amazing Race Against Hunger” is coming up on this Saturday, May 4.

The big event is an important fundraiser for Christian Ministry of Lincoln County and its LINC Meals program, which delivers hot meals to local shut-in and elderly residents. According to executive director Mitzi Williams, this year’s event will also feature a game of bingo at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, located at 216 S. Aspen St. in downtown Lincolnton. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the game starts at 5:30 p.m.

“Every year,” said Williams, “we have a certain amount of money that needs to be raised with our race to meet the financial needs for LINC Meals and those it serves.”

That figure is between $4,000 and $6,000. If you are collecting money for this, call Williams or Betty Leonard and let them know at (704) 732-0296. And if you’re planning to play bingo, e-mail Williams at [email protected].

The price for the bingo game is $20 each for adults and $10 for students. Admission includes five bingo cards, a bottle of water and a snack. Extra cards are available for each game for $3. Prizes will be awarded, but not cash.

“Remember,” said Williams, “this is the only fundraiser for LINC Meals. LINC Meals depends on this event each year, and that requires support from you, our friends and member churches. Please come out and support us, and enjoy a great game of bingo!”

In other news, Williams extended thanks to all those who came out for the ministry’s annual volunteer appreciation bash.

“A big shout-out to Lincoln County Homeschoolers and our staff for all their hard work,” she said. “A huge ‘thank you’ to Mark and Tina Watson of Shamrock Sound Designs for providing music and a fun time with their photo booth. A very special ‘thank you’ to First Methodist Church for allowing us to use their fellowship hall.”
