DENVER––A late golf coach at Lincoln Charter School is being memorialized by an upcoming tournament.

According to event representatives Carroll Lineberger and Leslie Auton, the Coach Jamie Seitz Memorial Cup High School Invitational will be held Feb. 28 at noon at the Verdict Ridge Country Club in Denver. Lincoln Charter is hosting the event, which is planned to be an annual occurrence.

Among the many parents of students coached by the highly respected Seitz, who was much loved by all who knew him, Lineberger explained more Sunday.

“This tournament will have eight of the top high school golf teams in the area playing to remember the late LCS golf coach Jamie Seitz,” he said. “We hope to grow this tournament into something bigger over the next few years, with more schools and attracting teams from across the state in the future. This event will help keep Coach Seitz’s name alive in the community; help with the foundation in his name; give the local golf teams some early tournament experience; and it will mean having some fun!”

As of right now, plans are to keep the first tournament limited to a maximum of eight to 10 high school teams (40-50 players), as Lineberger revealed. The tournament will be conducted as an 18-hole two-man Texas Scramble format to determine the winning team.

Lineberger added that it was in December of 2020 that Seitz died, due to pneumonia and other complications related to COVID-19.

“From what I have learned of him, he was nothing other than the brightest shining light at LCS,” he said of the beloved coach, who was also known for his work as an elementary-level phys ed teacher, “not only for the athletes he came in contact with but also every student, staffer, parent and person he met. From the stories I’ve heard, he was the kind of person that the students looked up to as a teacher, confided in as a friend and played their hearts out for as a coach. I just know that the light is a little dimmer at LCS without Jamie Seitz.”

Herself a golf coach, Auton also extolled Seitz and his decade of golfing efforts, including Lincoln Charter’s One-A State Championship victory in 2017.

“He started a legacy for men’s golf at Lincoln Charter,” she said. “I just want to honor that legacy, and that is why I coach these guys.”
