Tuesday Feb. 20th scores

Both Cherryville teams were eliminated from the Southern Piedmont Conference tournament in first round games:

Highland Tech boys 65, Cherryville boys 39

Bessemer City girls 74, Cherryville girls 66

Wednesday Feb. 21st games

East Lincoln girls 60, North Lincoln girls 51

The North girls made it close, but in the end, the East girls advanced to the championship game of the WFAC tournament.  East led 32-30 at halftime and increased the lead to six points in the 3rd period.  Emma Montanari hit  six 3-point shots for 18 of her 28 points; she had 4 rebounds, a steal, an assist and a blocked shot.  Kiara Anderson scored 10 points, had 6 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals. Abbie Hege had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Taniyah Thomas  scored 6 points, had 10 steals, 2 assists, 2 rebounds and blocked a shot.  For North Lincoln, Ally Smith led with 21 points; Madi Black had 14; Addison Grice 8; Hailey Hagler 6; and Ashlyn Black 2.  The East girls will try for their 26th win of the season when they play North Iredell  in the championship game Friday evening at Hickory High School.  

Lincoln Charter girls 59, Christ the King girls 31

Outscoring their opponents in every quarter, the LCS girls won for the 20th time this season.  The win puts them in the Catawba Shores Conference girls tournament championship game Friday evening at Christ the King High School in Huntersville against Community School of Davidson, 51-43 winners over Pine Lake Prep.

Hickory boys 67, East Lincoln boys 49

The Red Tornadoes won their 26th game without a loss as their defense prevailed.  Hickory held the Mustangs to only 7 points in the second quarter to take a 38-20 halftime lead, and while East matched them in scoring in the second half, that was just too much to overcome.  

Newton-Conover boys 59, Maiden boys 57

It was as close as a game can be: the Red Devils led by two at the end of the first quarter; the score was tied at halftime; and the Blue Devils led by two going into the final period, but Newton-Conover got the win to advance to Friday's CVAC championship game against West Caldwell.

Pine Lake Prep boys 62, Lincoln Charter boys 57

The Eagles came back from a 38-20 halftime deficit, closing the margin to a single point in the final period, but ended up losing when they had to foul and PLP made free throws.  

Thursday Feb. 22nd games

North Lincoln boys 83, Statesville boys  76

The Knights advanced to the WFAC tournament title game with a win over the Greyhounds.  Ty Sanders and Kellen Karr each hit four three-pointers.  Karr had a triple-double with 23 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists; Sanders scored 29 points.  Ben Heavner scored 12 points; Tanner Lineberger 9; Carson Engstrand 5; Ty Chandler 4; and Caleb Kidd 1.  North outscored Statesville by ten points in the first period and rode that advantage to their 21st win of the season.  North will play unbeaten Hickory on the Red Tornadoes' home court at 7:30 Friday night for the tournament championship.

North Iredell girls 57, Hickory girls  55

Bandys girls 56, Maiden girls 46

Maiden led for the first three quarters, but Bandys used a strong 4th qtr performance to advance to the CVAC tournament championship game against East Burke Friday evening at CVCC.

West Caldwell boys 71, Lincolnton boys 60

The Warriors took an early lead and beat the Wolves in the CVAC tournament semi-finals. Landen Lyerly had another double-double for the Wolves with 22 points and 14 rebounds; he also blocked two shots. Tyler McClain had 11 pts and 5 rebounds; Khamoni Heath had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and blocked a shot. Andrew Phelps scored 9 points, had 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Khalil Yarborough and Neo Thompson each scored 4 points.

Friday Feb. 23rd games

CVAC girls tournament championship:

East Burke 43, Bandys 26

WFAC girls tournament championship

East Lincoln 51, North Iredell 33

The East girls won their 26th game of the season, outscoring their opponents in every period as they added the conference tournament championship to their regular season championship.  

Friday's win was the East girls' 3rd consecutive WFAC Conference Tournament championship. They have now won 52 consecutive conference games. Emma Montanari was named Tournament MVP.  Friday night, she had 20 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals, 4 assists and 6 blocked shots. Kiara Anderson was named to the All Tournament team after scoring 19 points; she had 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist. Abbie Hege was also named All Tournament.  Friday she scored 4 points, had 16 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists, and blocked a shot. Lane Pethel scored 8 points in the championship game.

East will begin play in the NCHSAA girls 3A state tournament on Tuesday evening (Feb. 27th) at home.  Their opponent will be announced when the brackets are released on Saturday (Feb. 24th).

Alli Smith from North Lincoln was also named to the All Tournament team.

Hickory 89, North Lincoln 68

North Lincoln had two players named to the All Tournament team: Ty Sanders & Kellen Karr. East Lincoln's Jackson Fannon was also named All  Tournament.

Catawba Shores Conference girls tournament championship

Lincoln Charter 39, Community School of Davidson 28

The LCS girls held the Spartans to just two points in the fourth quarter and outscored them by 10 point in the second half.  Martha Guinle scored 13 points in the win; Kallie Lusk & Symphni Stevens each had 8.
