On Friday morning (March 29th) at approximately 9:20 AM, the NC State Highway Patrol attempted to stop a 2011 Toyota Corolla traveling south on US 321 in Lincoln County for speeding.
The driver of the vehicle, Justin Oneil Hinson, 28, of Lancaster, South Carolina, did not stop, and a vehicle chase was initiated. The Corolla traveled south on US 321 for approximately five miles at a speed of up to 115 mph. The driver attempted to exit off onto US 321-business (mile marker 20), lost control, drove off the right side of the road, struck several trees, went down an embankment, and became entrapped in the vehicle which plowed into a group of trees.
Hinson was extracted by responding members of the South Fork Fire Department and Lincoln County EMS. He was transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, in critical condition.
Upon completion of the ongoing investigation, charges are pending.
