Betty Sue Deitz Taylor

June 7, 1935 – April 29, 2024

NEWTON, N.C. - Betty Sue Deitz Taylor, 88, of Newton, completed her earthly journey and entered her Heavenly home on Monday, April 29, 2024 following a period of declining health.

She had been a resident at Conover Nursing and Rehab Center in Conover for 22 months.

Betty was born June 7, 1935 in Hickory,  the only daughter of the late Lewis Calvin Deitz and Bessie Smart Deitz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an older brother, Paul Deitz. and a son-in-law, Dale Sigmon.

Betty was a graduate of Hickory High School Class of 1953.   She was a long-time member of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden where she served as VBS Director for many years and also directed and led the Christmas pageants for children.  She loved to travel and did so until her health declined.  In her professional career, she worked for 42 years in the jewelry industry.  She was an excellent Southern cook and baker and looked forward to family gatherings where she would share her favorite dishes, chicken-n-dumplings and red velvet cake.  Most of all, she was a proud Mom and Memaw who loved and enjoyed all of her family.

Betty is survived by four children Jeff Taylor and wife Sandra of Newton, Katrina Taylor Daniel and husband Scott of Colfax, Lisa Taylor Sigmon of Conover, and Eric Taylor and wife Cheryl of Claremont; one brother, Wayne Deitz and wife Linda of Newton; 10 grandchildren April (Logan), Crystal (Steven) Shaye (Michael), Heather, Hope (Jared), Holly (Justin), Hunter (Emily), Jordon (Shannan), Brandon (Elizabeth) and Breanna (Dean); and 10 great-grandchildren Kyla (Cris), Aiden, Emmy, Keaton, Paisley, Paxton, Liam, Levi, Kyle (Chelsea) & Tyler;  and four great-great grandchildren (Amara, Kale, Barrett, and Chesney).  Also left to cherish her memory are long-time school friends, Annette Smith and Jeannette Arney, as well as all her friends and family at Conover Nursing including her “adopted” sister, Sherry Parker.

A service to celebrate Betty’s life was on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 2 p.m.  in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16 in Newton with her son-in-law, Rev. Scott Daniel officiating along with David Watson.  The family received friends prior to the service from 12-1:45 p.m.  Those serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, Brandon Taylor, Hunter Sigmon, Jordon Sigmon, Jared Ginn, Justin Hellard, and Dean Pletcher.

Burial was held at Oakwood Cemetery, 522 4th St NW in Hickory immediately following the service.

The family wishes to thank the workers at Conover Nursing and Rehab Center for their kind and loving care of our Mother.  You became her new family, and she loved each of you dearly.  We can never thank you enough for loving on our Mom and making every day so special.  Special thanks, too, to our cousin, Natalie Auton, for the love and support she showered on our Mom with the extra “family” touch during her months at Conover.  We also wish to thank Amorem of Granite Falls for their support and transitioning care over the past two months.

Condolences may be sent to the Taylor family at www.bennettfuneralservice.com
