Veterans Day events 2022

On Saturday, members of the Lincoln Quilters Guild presented Quilts of Valor to seven veterans in a program at the American Legion. Jean Funderburk is the president and Elsie Oakes vice-president of the Guild; Cathy Loughlin was in charge of the Quilts of Valor program.
Bill Oxford of Denver, former national American Legion Commander, was the speaker for Friday's Veterans Day program. He quoted President Ronald Reagan, who said of former POW and Presidential candidate John McCain, "where do we find men such as this?" Oxford said, "the same could be said of all these veterans."
Rock Springs School held its Veterans Breakfast on Wednesday, followed by a program in front of the school.
Retired Lt. Colonel Grant Campbell, who served in Iraq & Afghanistan, was the keynote speaker for Stanley's Veterans Day program.

Quilt of Valor recipient Larry Cline served in both the US Army & US Navy from 1969 - 1996.
Ed House served in the US Marine Corps from 1953-1972 including multiple tours of duty in Vietnam. He has served as the bugler for many veterans events and has blown taps for more than three thousand funerals.
Dale Martin served with the Seabees from 1968-1972 including three tours in Vietnam.
Rebecca Mattison Young comes from a military family. She served in the US Army from 1993-1999 including the Gulf War. She is currently the Veterans Service Officer for Catawba County.
Jim Mayhew served in the US Navy from 1974-1995.
Steve Reep served in the US Marine Corps from 1964-1994. He served five fours of duty in Vietnam and served in Operation Desert Storm.
Walt Shrum is best known to most Lincolntonians for his locksmith business. He served in the US Air Force from 1957-1961.
