Food is always an important part of the Apple Festival celebration and this year was no different. Our reporter enjoyed an Italian sausage from the Knights of Columbus and some spectacular Hispanic food from the Manantiel de Vida church in Iron Station. [Camino al Cielo of Lincolnton also served up some delicious Hispanic food and had customers standing in a line of 25 or more all day to make a purchase and enjoy it.] Local Roots restaurant served up a special menu for Apple Festival Day; this reporter enjoyed a delicious fried apple pie with ice cream--and at a bargain price. Turned out, one of our County Commissioners paid for my treat.]
Assorted civic groups were on hand with exhibits, this one from the VFW, who gave away American flags.
Entertainment was available on two stages, one on the south side of the old Court House and the other on Cedar Street across Main from the Cultural Center. [I was too far away to see the young lady who sang "Black Velvet" on the Courtsquare stage, but she nailed it. I did get to enjoy other performances.]
Both the Democratic and Republican parties were on hand to tout their candidates in the Nov. 8th election. Jill Tipton and Marty Eaddy are opponents in the City Council election, but friends more than foes.
The day began with the Rotary Apple Festival 5k and Fun Run at LHS.
