Preston Clarke was named by the Lincoln County School Board as the new principal at Lincolnton High School for 2019-2020 at the board's meeting Tuesday evening (July 9th).  It was one of two major administrative appointments approved by the board.

The board also approved Casey Oakes as the new assistant principal at Lincolnton Middle School.  Oakes has been conducting bands/theater since 2010 at Southwestern Randolph and Maiden High Schools and has been leading the band at St. Stephens High School since 2013.  Oakes did his student teaching at North Lincoln High School and is a former NC Teaching Fellow.

Clarke served as principal at Valley Crucis School in Sugar Grove, NC, for five years.  He was named the Watauga County Principal of the Year in 2017.

Prior to his time at Valley Crucis, he served as assistant principal at Watauga High School for almost three years.  He worked in the Watauga County Schools for 13 years after three years as an AVID Elective teacher at Maiden High School from 2006-2009.

Clarke will soon get  his doctoral degree from East Tennessee State University.  He got a masters degree in school administration from Western Carolina University in 2014.  He got a bachelors degree in Health Education K-12, History and Secondary Education from Appalachian State University in 2006.

His wife, Hannah, has served as a middle school math teacher.  The couple have one elementary school age son.

In other business, the School Board extended the contract of Superintendent Dr. Lory Morrow by one year.  Her contract will now be through 2023.
