Iron Station Man Arrested For Number Of Break-Ins

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – An Iron Station man has been arrested in connection with a number of break-ins to trailers and vending machines.
On September 24, 2019 deputies were dispatched to the Cowan’s Ford Community Storage at 220 Rivers Edge Drive, Stanley, NC where a number of trailers had been broken into. The break-ins were discovered when a customer went to the storage facility to pick up his work truck and found the fence had been cut and slid open. As many as five camping trailers had been entered. The thefts included electronic equipment and lawn maintenance equipment.
Then on October 7, 2019 officers were dispatched to Prestige Car Wash at 445 N NC 16 Business Highway reference break-ins to vending machines. Coca Cola vending machines and car wash vending machines were broken into where someone attempted to get the money out of them. The exact amount of money in the machines has not been determined. Damage to the machines and car wash wall is estimated to be $9,200. Surveillance photo shows that the suspect was a white male, middle-aged and driving a white truck.
During the investigation, Detectives G. Hager and F. Runyon developed Leonard Wade Scott Johnson, 52, of Monterey Drive, Iron Station as the suspect in the case. He was arrested by Huntersville Police on October 10, 2019 and transported to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office by Detective Hager. Detectives Hager and Runyon interviewed Johnson where he confessed to the break-ins. He is charged with four counts of breaking and entering a coin or currency machine, five felony counts of breaking and entering a vehicle, five counts of misdemeanor larceny, one count of felony larceny, one felony count of possession of stolen goods and one misdemeanor count of possession of stolen goods, one count of injury to real property and one count of injury to personal property. He was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and given a $160,000 secured bond. He is also under a no bond hold for Lincoln County.
Investigation into the incident is continuing and additional charges could be filed.
