Lincoln County Public Library Press Release
LINCOLNTON, N.C. - How do I use the library’s online resources for genealogy research and where do I start? How do I preserve my family history for future generations? What’s the best way to locate long lost relatives in my family tree? How do I access and use historic maps to find the old family homestead?
The Lincoln County Public Library is hosting the second annual Our Community, Our Heritage Local History and Genealogy Festival on Saturday, October 12, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Lincoln Cultural Center.
Local history starts with individuals and families. Weaving their stories and memories together creates a patchwork quilt with patterns representing many unique journeys from our community’s past. As part of its commitment to helping preserve and curate the history of Lincoln County, library staff along with local historians and genealogists will share their expertise, tips, and resources relevant to genealogy and local history. These free workshops are designed to help both beginning and experienced researchers uncover and preserve their families’ heritage.
“Family history is local history. To lose these wonderful stories and mementos to the passing of time would be a great loss to the community as a whole,” says LCPL Program and Outreach Manager Phillip Overholtzer.
