CONOVER, N.C. - Linda Ruth Jenkins Ward, 80, of Conover passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, May 16, 2020 in Lenoir.
She was born January 3, 1940 in Catawba County to the late John Franklin Jenkins and Ruth Louise Price Jenkins. Never a dull moment, Linda lived a full life filled with camping adventures and artistic pursuits. Always wearing a smile, she never met a stranger and always had a warm welcome for anyone she was fortunate to even run into. One of Linda’s favorite hobbies included mixed media painting. She loved to repurpose items and add life to them either through a complete redo or a fresh coat of paint. As a camper at Brown Mountain Beach Campground she spent her weekends on the shore of Wilson Creek. Singing in the campground band and jam sessions by the fire ensured her love of camping and music was transferred to her family. Linda was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Conover for over 50 years. In that time she served God by heading up the acolytes, served as a member of the mad hatters women’s group and sang in the choir. She was a cosmetology instructor at various cosmetology schools in the Hickory area and retired from Caldwell Community College. Linda will be remembered for her zest for life and her love of family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to cherish her memory is her husband of 38 years Larry James Ward of the home; daughters Belinda Hollar of Granite Falls, Frankie Lail and husband Dale of Hickory, Rachel Neal and husband Charlie Watts of Newton; sister Barbara Long of Hickory; grandchildren Bridget Mitchell, Whitney Rhodes, Tiffany Carpenter, Vonraya Neal, Noah Watts, Isaiah Watts; great-grandchildren Aaliya Linebarger, Aniyla Neal, Ivan Huffman, Ivey Huffman, Kolten Rhodes, Walker Rhodes, Bryce Mitchell and Moxon Mitchell.
