Christian Ministry Releases Latest Stats
More than $1 million in food given out last year

LINCOLNTON––Thanks a million.

Yes, quite literally. Christian Ministry of Lincoln County gave out more than a million dollars in food last year––$1,230,982, to be exact––for local families to take home.

That’s the word Friday from Mitzi Williams. The executive director of Christian Ministry, Williams released the group’s latest statistics following its recent annual meeting with local supporting churches, and she also thanked the volunteers who plugged away through Thursday’s torrential rains.

“As Forrest Gump said, ‘We had little-bitty, stingin’ rain and big, ol’ fat rain and rain that flew in sideways and sometimes rain that even seemed to come straight up from underneath,’” she said. “As all that went on Thursday, staffers were here, helping anyone that came in. And volunteers came when they could have just stayed at home. To keep volunteer drivers safe, we canceled LINC meals. But some drivers were already out. Thank you for going above and beyond! Thank you to all the volunteers that helped at the ministry yesterday!”

And talking of the annual meeting, Williams expressed gratitude.

“We want to thank Freedom Church for hosting it,” she said. “If you want to know what went on at the Ministry in 2019, our annual book of reports can be found on our Website.”

In addition to the $1.2 million in food given out on a take-home basis, more than $20,000 in foodstuffs was given out by the ministry’s mobile food pantries. Plus, the ministry gave out:

  • $48,000 in heating/cooling assistance;
  • more than $633,000 worth of personal and household items;
  • and more than 19,000 meals through LINC home-delivered meals.

As well, donated volunteer hours were worth more than an estimated $190,000. And 42,308 clients were served, worth more than $177,000, as Williams noted.

She added that the total amount of items, food and other things given out by the ministry came to $2,805,775.

Christian Ministry of Lincoln County is located at 230 E. Water St. in downtown Lincolnton. Call (704) 732-2691 or (704) 732-0383 for more information.
