Joyce Austin Beam
April 22, 1957 - January 11, 2019

HICKORY, N.C. - Joyce Marie Austin Beam, age 61, of Hickory went home to be with her Lord on Friday, January 11, 2019 after a strongly fought battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born April 22, 1957 in Wicomico County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Bernard Austin and Margaret Price Johnson. Joyce was a member of Mercy Missionary Baptist Church in Hickory.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Ray Austin and niece, Jessica Hamby.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years James Edward Beam Jr. of the home; daughter Diane Starnes and husband Scott of Conover; son David Walker Jr. and wife Amanda of Granite Falls; three granddaughters Alana, Kayle and Kealee; three grandsons Nicholas, Steven and Zakary; great-granddaughter Elena; two sisters Linda Noblett and husband Donald of Hickory and Donna Weherman of Illinois; two uncles W.D. Price and wife Gail and Robert Price and wife Jean; cousin and close friend Kathy Campbell; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other close friends.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton with Pastor James McKinney officiating.

Burial will follow at Brookford City Cemetery in Hickory.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
