Sylvester "Bud" Oaks Jr.
May 30, 1937 - June 25, 2020

MOORESBORO, N.C. - Sylvester “Bud” Oaks Jr., 83, of Mooresboro passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City.

He was born May 30, 1937 in Avery County to the late Sylvester and Maude Johnson Oaks. Bud was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church in Rutherfordton and a United States Army veteran. He retired from Duke Power after many years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rachel Hodge Oaks.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son Stephen “Steve” Oaks and wife Leigh Ann of Newton; brother Jack Oaks and wife Jeannie of Asheville; sister Virginia Peters of Johnson City, Tenn.; grandchildren Nikki Oaks Vivion (Lance), Matthew Oaks (Alicia), and Laney Oaks; great-grandchildren Caroline, Catherine and William Vivion, Isabella and Matthew Oaks; and beloved caregiver Beatrice White of Mooresboro.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service in Newton.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
