VALE, N.C. - Nelson Lane, 89, of Vale passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at his residence.
He was born July 25, 1931 in Rutherford County to the late Cletus Durham Lane and Nettie Scronce Lane. Nelson was a member of Macedonia Pentacostal Holiness Church in Vale and retired from the furniture industry after many years of service. He enjoyed mowing grass, playing guitar, and collecting clocks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Lane Berryhill; second wife, Sheila Lane; son, Butch Lane; daughter, Crystal Lane; brothers, Bill Lane, Wendell Lane, Durham Lane, Dave Lane, Jerry Lane, and JD Lane; and sisters, Ina Travis, Art Gilbert, and Ruby Alexander.
Those left to cherish his memory are sons Brian Lane and wife Pattie of Claremont, Tim Lane and wife Darlene of Hurt, Va., Jason Lane of Vale, Mitchell Cook and wife Beth of Drexel; daughter Vicki Acevedo and husband Norberto of Vale; brothers Teddy Lane and wife Dorothy of Vale, Lester Lane of Vale, Dale Lane of Hickory; sisters Patsy Lane of Conover, Carolyn Witlock and husband Charles of Hickory; grandchildren Chad Stiles, Cassie Moose, Kylie Acevedo, Madison Lane, Travis Lane, Danny Lane, Farah Lane, Ashley Self, Heather Willis, Gage Lane, Charlie Lane, Sheila Lane, and Emily Knight; great-grandchildren Macy Moose, Mallory Moose, Kingston Stiles, Destiny Self, Cayden Self, and Jaiden Lane.
A service to celebrate Nelson’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton, NC 28658. Rev. Tim Lane and Rev. Tommy Scronce will officiate. Burial will follow at Macedonia Pentacostal Holiness Church cemetery in Hickory. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brian Lane, 3962 Englewood St., Claremont, NC 28610 to offset funeral costs.
