Teresa Ruth "Sis" Sipe
April 15, 1956 - November 20, 2021

NEWTON, N.C. - Teresa Ruth “Sis” Sipe, age 65, of Newton, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Conover Nursing and Rehab, surrounded by friends and family.

Born April 15, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Winfred Rowe Sipe and Lena Keever Sipe. She grew up on Sipe Road, was a 1974 graduate of Maiden High School, and a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Newton.

There was no one quite like Sis. She cherished time with her niece and nephew. She enjoyed sleepovers, Black Friday shopping, movies, making forts, and baking cookies. Teresa enjoyed sewing pillows and Christmas ornaments for family, a skill she learned from her mother, Lena. She often helped organize Sipe Family Reunions, where she manned the drink counter like a nightclub bouncer.

To say that Teresa was saucy would be an understatement. She could be stubborn, fiery, and if she had an opinion, she let you know about it. These were the things that made her special and will be missed.

Teresa had a real joy for cooking. She always welcomed people to stay for supper and insisted guests get second helpings. When her health deteriorated, she moved to Conover Nursing and Rehab where she continued cooking for staff and residents. She helped organize bingo, crafting, and other activities. She was officially dubbed the Assistant to the Assistant to the Activity Department.

Special thanks and condolences to her second family at Conover Nursing and Rehab, where she lived for the last six years of her life. The people there didn’t just take care of her, but also understood and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dwight Sipe.

Teresa is survived by her brother Charles Sipe and wife Tracey of Maiden; nephew Nick Sipe and wife Brooke of Gastonia; niece Randi Sims and husband Mike of Burlington; great-nieces and great-nephews, Nixon Sipe, Blythe Sipe, Kristin Sims, and Katie Sims.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Sis’s life will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton, NC 28658 with an inurnment to follow at St. James Lutheran Church cemetery in Newton.

Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 1942 Saint James Church Rd., Newton, NC 28658.

Condolences may be sent to the Sipe family at www.bennettfuneralservice.com

Bennett Funeral Service of Newton, N.C. is serving the Sipe family.
