HICKORY, N.C. - Shelby Jean Spiva, age 76, of Salem Road, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022 at her residence.
She was born October 24, 1945 in Mercer County, W.Va. to the late Giles Butt and the late Lucille Shrader Carosie.
Shelby was a long-time member of Truth Tabernacle where she served form more than 20 years as a Sunday School teacher. Every Tuesday and Thursday Shelby would support church fundraisers by making peanut brittle and suckers. She was also an active member of the Mother’s of Prayer. She also enjoyed crocheting and reading.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deonna Lynn Anthony; and sister, Bobbie Graham.
She is survived by her brother, Earl Pennington (Christy); grandchildren, Ronnie Wilcox Jr., Travis Wilcox, Drake Anthony, Jonathan Anthony, and Scarlett Anthony; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Marcus Huntley officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.
