James "Jim" Thomas Comer
September 23, 1947 - September 17, 2022

CATAWBA, N.C. - James “Jim” Thomas Comer, 74, of Catawba, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Carolina Caring in Newton.

He was born September 23, 1947 in Iredell County to the late Dennis and Mattie Varner Comer. Jim was a United States Army veteran and a member of Calvary’s Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Catawba. He retired as a driver in the trucking industry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Dennis Jr. and Bill; and sisters, Helen, Dot, Maxine, Nancy, Thelma, and Marie.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 32 years Eloise McKinney Comer of the home; sons Larry Cook and wife Susie of Vale, Jimmy Cook and wife Michelle of Conover, Terry Cook and wife Lisa of Cajah’s Mountain; daughter Christy Michelle Cook of Hickory; sister Zelma of High Point; nine grandchildren Tiffany, Rebecca, Cody, Elizabeth, Dustin, Layla, Courtney, Jonathan, and Ethan; and six great-grandchildren Lily, Elijah, Cadence, Emalin, Keaton, and Lexi.

A memorial service with military honors by American Legion Post 16 to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Calvary’s Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Catawba. Rev. Larry Cooley will officiate.
